Bonham Area Tourist Attractions

Sam Rayburn Library		 The Sam Rayburn Library and Museum located in Bonham, Texas is the creation of "Mr. Sam", as he was affectionately known to his friends and colleagues. Rayburn established the library and museum in 1957 as a tribute to the people of this cherished Fannin County, Texas. The Sam Rayburn Library and Museum is operated as a unit of the University of Texas at Austin Center for American History.

Sam Rayburn House & Museum		 Operated by the Texas Historical Commission the Sam Rayburn House Museum Offers an  intimate glimpse into the life of Speaker Sam Rayburn. The twelve-room home built in 1916 still gives the feeling that Mr. Sam or other family members have just stepped out and will return shortly.


Fannin County Historical Museum
 

 Fannin County Museum of History picks up the story of Fannin County shortly before the Texas Revolution when Dr. Daniel Rowlett introduced the first twelve families as permanent settlers to the area. It continues through the uncertain years of the Republic of Texas, to the Civil War era, through arrival of the railroad and the tumultuous beginning of a new century, the jazz age, and two world wars. All of this housed in the restored 1900 Texas and Pacific Railway depot.

Fort Inglish & Museum		 Bailey Inglish, founder of Bonham, Brought the first settlers to claim homesteads on the rich black land of the Red River Valley in the central part of what was to become Fannin county, in March 1837. As the danger of Indian raids began to increase, Bailey Inglish convinced his neighbors to construct a fort and stockade to provide a safe haven for the families of the area. Fort Inglish was used until 1843 when the Indians moved further west.  This replica was built in 1976, as a Fannin County Bicentennial project. . Groups may see various pioneer activities being demonstrated including: lye soap making, broom making, candle making and various outdoor skills.

Creative Arts Center		 The Creative Arts Center was established to encourage the creative arts in Fannin County through the exposure to and teaching of visual and performing arts. The objective is to provide a venue where artists and performers explore, create, display, and teach their craft and where people of all ages learn and experience art.
 

Homestead Winery

Gabe and Barbara Parker established Homestead Winery on the Parker homestead in Ivanhoe, Texas, and also operate a Wine Tasting room in Denison, Texas. The vineyard was planted in 1983 and the winery bonded in 1989. The Parker’s carryon a one hundred years of farming a tradition started by Gabe’s grandfather in 1880. The winery produces several premium quality wines, which are hand crafted to respond to Texan’s taste. Winemaking is under the direction of Dr. Roy Mitchell. Winery tours are offered on special occasions (please contact the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce (903) 583-4811)

Lake Bonham

Six miles north of Bonham on Farm Road 898, is open daily with camping, fishing, swimming, boating, par 3 golf, pavilion rental, campsites and water skiing on a 1,282 acre lake.  For information call 903-583-8001 or 903-583-7555.  Lake Bonham

Bonham State Park

Located two miles southeast of Bonham on Hwy 78, continue two miles southeast on FM 271 to Park Road 24.  The 261 acre park includes a 65 acre lake, with camping picnicking, fishing, boating, mountain bike trails, and group barracks.  For information call 903-583-5022.  Bonham State Park

Lake Trails Scenic Drive

This drive offers the wildlife enthusiast a wonderful view of springtime blooming Dogwoods and blankets of Texas Bluebonnets along with other wildflowers.  In Autumn the reds and golds of the fall foliage are displayed.  For more information call 903-583-4811 or the National Forest Service at 903-378-2103. Lake Crockett

This 450 acre lake is located in the Caddo National Grasslands.  Boating, fishing, and camping are available.  For more information call the National Forest Service at 903-378-2103. Lake Crockett

Lake Coffee Mill

Also located in the Caddo National Grasslands, this 750 acre lake offers boating, camping, and fishing.  Hybrid Bass, Catfish, Crappie, and Blue Gill are restocked regularly.  For more information call the National Forest Service at 903-378-2103. Lake Coffee Mill

Lake Fannin

One of the best kept secretes in Fannin County, Lake Fannin is another Caddo National Grasslands lake.  This secluded lake is open to fishing and small boats. For more information call the National Forest Service at 903-378-2103.   Lake Fannin Wilderness Park
